Main purpose of the role:

The Junior Project Manager will be responsible for coordinating activities relating to renewable energy projects for

  • (i) bidding
  • (ii) financial closing
  • (iii) acquisitions / partnerships

across various countries in the sub-Saharan African region, with a focus on South Africa.

Key responsibilities:

- Bid preparation: review of the terms of reference, establish resources and planning etc.

- Project team coordination (technical, financial, permitting, legal, economic development)

- Tracking of key deliverables

- Project due diligence lead for acquisitions / partnerships

- Interface with project advisors (LTA, LLA, TA, SLA etc.)

- Policy and regulatory environment analysis

- Market intelligence

The position reports directly into:

- Project Management Lead - Business Development.

The position reports functionally into:

- Project Lead / Project Director

QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Must-have Qualifications and Certifications:

- Honours Degree (or equivalent) in business or science/engineering

Preferred Qualifications and Certifications:

- Second qualification or advanced degree in business/management or science/engineering

RELEVANT EXPERIENCES

Must-have professional experience:

- 3+ years’ work experience

- Experience in Project Management

- Experience in either engineering or finance/business fields (experience with both is an advantage)

Preferred industry experience:

- 1+ year or Renewable Energy industry experience preferred

- Experience in a Business Development or other client-facing role

COMPETENCIES

The position requires strong project management abilities, backed by the following skills.

Technical competencies:

- Proficiency in MS Office software and tools

- General IT capabilities (setting up data rooms, automation systems, access rights etc.)

- Understanding of basic finance principles (risk and return, time value of money, etc. – understanding of Project Finance is an advantage)

Behavioral competencies:

- Attention to detail.

- Team player – ability to work well in a diverse group.

- Great work ethic.

- Willingness and ability to learn fast.

    Mix of hard (business/technical) and soft (problem-solving, critical thinking, leadership) skills is a significant advantage.

    Excellent communication skills in both oral and written English; additional local language skills are an advantage.

    Willingness to travel and driver’s license.
