THE ROLE:

EDF Renewables requires experienced Turbine Engineers/ Technicians who shall provide strong inputs related to wind turbine construction and commissioning. The candidate must be able to successfully monitor, oversee and inspect the turbines during the erection process to ensure it is performed safely and correctly to specification. The candidates must be able to interface with, and provide support to the, Senior Project Professionals, Project Managers, Goldwind Interface Manager and Goldwind construction team.

The Koruson 1 Cluster is a unique, high-profile, technically challenging project comprising three Wind Energy Facilities. Each Wind farm shall have 26 5.6 MW WTG’s with 124 meter hub height and requires Wind Engineers or Technicians with extensive wind energy sector experience to interface with the TSIA Contractor at various work areas concurrently.

The Turbine Engineer/ Technicians will be based on the project site in Noupoort.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Turbine Engineer/Technician shall mainly perform an oversight, monitoring and technical inspection role during the erection of the wind turbines at each subproject. The Engineer/Technician shall perform the following:

Documentation Management

• Review Contractor Method Statements

• Review and verify DSTI’s

• Verify that documents are issued as AFC

• Ensure As-built drawings are produced on completion of a section of the scope

• Ensure all Electrical documents and drawings are properly logged in the Project Electronic Document Management System (EDMS)

• Assist the Document Controller with site-generated project documentation.

• Inspect and monitor turbine component deliverables in accordance with the relevant delivery notices and turbine specification and initiate appropriate corrective actions where required.

• Ensure all turbine documentation for each subproject complies with the minimum specifications set out by the Employer.

• Ensure management and control of turbine documentation is accurate and managed through the use of the Electronic Document Management System.

• Review As-built documents for accuracy and completeness.

• Review OEM equipment drawings and designs for compliance with the relevant standards.

• Assist with preparing statements of work, submittals, change management,.

Turbine Erection Inspection

• Ensure turbine component handling, assembly and erection are executed in accordance with the TSIA contractors scope of work, project specifications, and in compliance with construction good practices, local rules, regulations, and standards.

• Provide engineering and technical support for the Wind Farm construction phase.

• Ensure that the correct turbine erection procedures are followed and complies with the designs and specifications.

• Inspect equipment, material, workmanship, and erected turbines.

• During the erection process perform regular visual and instrument checks and tests (random and statutory) to ensure the turbine installation specification is applied consistently throughout the Cluster.

Quality Management

• Establish and apply a uniform punch list system for remedial actions and rectification items on each turbine.

• Ensure the TSIA contractor and its erection subcontractors have been trained and understand the erection standard for each turbine.

• Support Quality Manager with documentation, NCR’s and other quality matters during the erection process.

• Inform the Construction Site Manager once a turbine erection is successfully completed according to the punch list system, and that testing and commissioning can commence.

Testing and commissioning

• Witness turbine testing and commissioning activities

• Monitor turbine compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC standards, performance standards, and specifications.

• Provide assistance to the commissioning team during commissioning of the Wind Farm.

• Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry- specific professional and ethical conduct standards, if applicable.

Health & Safety

• Provide active and demonstrable support to the HSE Officers to enforce the HSE Plan on site.

Environmental

• Guide and support the contractors to ensure compliance with the project EMPr’s

Contractor management

• Attend weekly meeting with contractors on site and provide inputs to MoM for accuracy,

• Collect daily diaries from contractors

Commercial

• Support project Planner and Contract Manager Surveyor with erection progress,

• Assist Construction Site Manager and Commercial team with supporting document compilation for Project milestone payment claims.

Communication

• Proactive interaction with Project Team and Goldwind Interface Manager during the erection of turbines,

• Effectively communicate company values and objectives on site.

Reporting

• Fulfil construction reporting obligations - (weekly & monthly),

• Support internal team with reporting and preparation of external reporting to the Client.

Design and Engineering Support

• Review Technical Acceptance procedures from the contractor.

Planning

• Be knowledgeable about turbine erection schedules, organise and supervise work areas

• Ensure turbine erection schedule is adhered to, and project milestone dates are met, especially cardinal milestones,

• Overseeing key milestones for handover for commissioning.

• Be instrumental in the Handover process of work areas between electrical and other Contractors

• Support the project team with Cold and Hot Commissioning and COD.

Interfacing with stakeholders

• Interfacing and coordination with Turbine Supply, BOP (Electrical) Contractor, Owner’s Engineer, and the adjacent wind projects.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

The Turbine Engineer/Technicians will report to the Construction Site Manager of a Wind Farm subproject.


QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

The required candidate will have the following skills and experience:

• Tertiary qualification in an Engineering or Construction field (BSc, BTech or equivalent as a minimum),

• Minimum 5 years work experience as Turbine Engineer/ Technician on renewable projects,

• Exposure and knowledge of multiple project execution will be an added advantage,

• Proactive, with high level of entrepreneurship, energy level and motivation,

• Team worker with sense of the common good,

• Detail orientated– able to follow up on details, monitor and report on progress,

• Good communication skills – reliable and trustworthy,

• High social and intercultural competence,

• Speaks and writes English fluently. Good knowledge of another language is an advantage,

• Above average report writing skill, with good spelling and grammar acumen,

• Analytical thinking with focus on customer and goal achievement,

• An excellent working knowledge of MS Office,

• Willingness to be site-based, in Noupoort, Northern Cape for the full duration of the project,

• In possession of a valid driver’s license,

• Medically fit.
