Role Overview:
EDF Renewables is seeking an experienced High Voltage (HV) Technician to join the Asset Operations team. This role is responsible for the safe and reliable operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical substations, overhead lines, and Balance of Plant (BOP) equipment. The HV Technician will conduct scheduled inspections, oversee third-party contractors, and ensure compliance with OEM, EDFR, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Maintenance:
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on electrical substations, transformers, switchgear, relays, overhead lines, and underground MV cables.
- Inspect, calibrate, and service equipment to maintain optimal functionality and compliance with manufacturer specifications.
- Manage assigned work orders through the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Identify and proactively rectify potential equipment failures to ensure operational continuity.
Fault Diagnosis & Repair:
- Conduct diagnostic tests and analyze data to assess equipment integrity and identify faults.
- Troubleshoot electrical malfunctions within substations and recommend corrective actions.
- Execute timely repairs or replacements of faulty components, ensuring minimal operational downtime.
Safety & Compliance:
- Adhere to safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures and PPE requirements.
- Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments to mitigate hazards.
- Ensure compliance with ORHVS, NRS 097, NRS 047, and NRS 048 standards.
- Act as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) with system operators and utilities when required.
Reporting & Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, test results, and inspections.
- Prepare detailed reports on equipment performance and maintenance history.
- Communicate technical issues and recommended improvements to management.
Standby & Emergency Response:
- Perform standby duties and respond to emergency maintenance needs.
- Conduct switching of LV/MV/HV equipment as per company procedures.
- Accept GMR2(7) appointment and associated responsibilities.
Reporting Relationships:
- Reports to the BOP O&M Co-Manager.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
- N3 Electrical Engineering with Electrical Trade Test.
- ORHVS Certification.
- Minimum of eight years of industry experience, including at least three years working with electrical substations and overhead line maintenance.
- Extensive knowledge of MV and HV electrical equipment and operations.
Preferred:
- National Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
Technical Competencies:
- Strong fault-finding ability and practical electrical expertise.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Teams, SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and ensure results-driven execution.
